Canine Program
Initiated in 2007, The Williams Police Department Canine
Program, funded solely through public and private
donations, has already been deemed a success and very
beneficial to the community.
The program began with the purchase of Sarek, whose full
name is "O'Breon's
Sarek", a 4-year old male Belgian Malinois. He was born
on April 28, 2003 and
weighs approximately 75 pounds. Sarek came to us from El Dorado, California, where his
previous owner, Karen Robertson trained him and competed
in the (PSA) Protection Sport Association Trials.
Sarek and Police Officer Keith Swift, a four-year
veteran of the Police Department, work together four
nights a week, locating hidden suspects, searching for
illegal narcotics, and protecting one another while on
patrol.
When not on-duty, Sarek is at home with Officer Swift
and his family. Sarek enjoys playing tug-a-war, fetch,
and going on walks. Sarek also loves training and going
to work.
The K-9 Unit is made available to surrounding law
enforcement agencies and provides demonstrations to
schools, youth groups, and civic organizations upon
request.
Remember, Sarek is a Police Dog. Although he is very
friendly, he is protective of his partner and his police
car. Please do not walk up to the police car and try to
pet him.
