Mission Statement

The primary mission of the Building Department is to provide quality service to the community that is knowledgeable, efficient, comprehensive and helpful to the public. The intention is to safeguard life, health, property and public welfare by regulating and controlling the construction, quality of materials, use of all buildings and structures within the City of Williams. The department is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the uniform codes and related Federal, State, and City adopted laws and ordinances.

Important Notice Regarding 2013 California Building Code

ContractorThe California Building Standards commission has adopted the 2013 California building codes. These regulations were approved and published on July 1, 2013 and became effective locally and throughout California January 1, 2014. Important updates to the 2013 Code included:

  • Updated California Green Building Code-CAL Green as of July 1, 2014;
  • Updated California Energy Code as of July 1, 2014;
  • Entire Chapter 11B format and organization was changed to resemble the 2010 ADA Standards;
  • New Plumbing Code provisions pertaining to greywater and rainwater catchment.
